Monster! I've created a monster!

As the nights draw in I start thinking about upgrading my bike light set ups. I build my own lights, (why buy when you can build it yourself!) and have always tweaked and changed things, improving run times, making them lighter or brighter or more reliable. (some early efforts struggled with batteries that failed on me!)

This year I've decided to play about with ultra-bright LED's. These are really efficient lights that use a lot less power to produce the same amount of light as a normal filament type bulb. So the result is a very bright light that lasts for ages and only needs a small lightweight battery to run.

I received a package of electroniccy bits today so botched together a rear light. I think it's about twice as bright as a car fog light and only uses 2 AA type batteries! Result!! (actually it may be a bit too bright as it's quite dazzling.)

I think the car drivers will see me on my commute to work tomorrow!

The new front light is next, this will have two LED bulbs that each produce about 3 times the light that this one does....(have to wait for another package in the post for that though.)
