Car boot sale adventures await

Everyone has yard sales, garage sales, and community sales. New to our area is the old-fashioned car boot (trunk) sale - likely the inspiration of several English ladies on the committee. This sale is run by the Doane House Hospice in Newmarket. They provide care-giving support to those with life-threatening illnesses. They borrow the municipal parking lot, charge $20 for a vendor spot, and sell food and drinks. This is the first year the Hospice has done this and it has grown each of the three months it has operated. Next year they will operate monthly from May-September instead of June-August for this trial year. This time we broke even. Lovely weather, lots of shoppers, not many parting with cash today. The previous two monthly sales we cleared $100 profit each time. Overall, we're in the black for the season.

There is a lot going on in the photo. The sale has been going on about 20 minutes. My wife sits expectantly on our car's bumper at left, a family checks out some toys at right, the hospice ladies have a mini meeting under the tent and prep the coffee, a student volunteer struts across the way at centre to pick up the raffle tickets she's to sell, and so on. The photo was a simple snap taken from above my head and is only manipulated by a bit of cropping at the bottom to evict an orange pylon from centre frame that was intruding and to reduce the sky's share of the frame. In the background is a community garden where I took a blip photo that I posted a couple of days ago.
