Stacked Spades

This piece of modern art stands in an Edinburgh Shopping Centre. These sorts of enhancements do catch the eye and give the day a little more interest.

I don't play Bridge! If I had taken the trouble to learn - I would probably have ended up obsessed - so just as well not! But I understand that 13 spades is the ultimate hand. In 1935 -

"PARIS, Mar. 4 Samuel Spadoff died here today from a heart attack caused, physicians state, by being dealt the perfect bridge hand - thirteen spades."

The odds against receiving the perfect hand are one chance in 635,013,559,600 deals.

So, maybe Samuel Spadoff's sudden departure was perfectly understandable in the circumstances.
