Cucumber Falls

This wonderful waterfall is in Ohiopyle State Park, Pennsylvania. A forest of beech, maple, poplar, birch and maple surrounds it. It tumbles over layers of sedimentary shale that were deposited when Pennsylvania was covered by ocean waters... I'd have to look up the time period for that, but 200 million years before present sticks in my mind.
For more shots from this recent trip, see my blips for August 10, 9 and 5.
