Lederhosen!
[backblip]
trip to bavaria today! i visited one of my old friends. each year i either visit him or he visits me! this year it was my turn :) he told me beforehand that he would pick me up in lederhosen. i thought he was only joking!
i was able to take the train alone to my friend's small town but i had to change trains at the larger city nearby, ingolstadt. i almost got on the wrong train! luckily a lady asked me if it was the train to ravensburg. i guess its always good to check!
another one of our friends from high school who moved to germany came along too and we had a nice reunion. we also went to ingolstadt later in the evening for a night on the town and it was pretty fun. germans have the weirdest drink names! lots of good music too :)
another tradition we have in our friendship is to take a picture with the town's goat statue! the history of this statue was explained to me by my friend.
he said that the townpeoples' nickname is the "goat hangers" and of course i quickly asked why that is! so in the town, there was a large protective wall around to hold off intruders and after a while the townspeople noticed that there was grass growing on top of the very high wall. being the resourceful people they were, they decided that the best way was to put a goat on top of the wall to have it eat all the grass! great idea right? so they tied one end around the goat's neck and threw the other over the wall then pulled. the goat got up to the top and they noticed that it's tongue was hanging out and thought "oh look! it's already eating the grass!" after a while the goat wasn't moving so they checked and, of course, the goat was "tot". thus the nickname.
i was also told by my friend that the next town over isnt any better. "Turm Scheißer". i'll let you figure that out on your own ;)
all in all it was a FANTASTIC time and i'm glad i got to see my dear old friends.
