The Burn
In the late 1900's Balmullo was a market village, with many crops being grown on the sunny hillsides. The market gardeners dug clay drainage pipes into the hill to allow the water which gathered from rain to be collected and channelled in an orderly fashion.
Its actually quite surprising what happens if you dig into one of these pipes by accident as I know to my cost. At one point we converted an old barn on the hill and uncovered a few of these pipes - result - a torrent of water whenever it rained
Today we have had an afternoon of really torrential showers, 10 to 15 mins of bouncing off the ground stuff. The normally clear and slow moving burn on the edge of the village shows the result of this. It looks a bit like hot chocolate! The fields are waterlogged, paths with standing water
Did I mention we are off to Edinburgh to see the fringe and that we are CAMPING this weekend :-) I will pack me wellies then?? :)
