Rubbish blip !

Back blip
Lots of work this month and strange timetable means that my blips at the moment are really just snapshots, which give a little insight into my daily life. This back blip is on rubbish! Rubbish collection in barcelona is now a one man show and fully automated. It's done late at night, often after midnight. And there's something strangely comforting about the deep rumble of the truck and the clank clank as the driver manoeuvres the container into position. In our early days here, back in the early 90s, teams of three orange-uniformed men clung onto the back of the vehicles and were swung round the streets, jumping off and on to manually get the containers onto the lift, while shouting at each other over the racket . In these days, our sleep was disturbed by the operation! A sign of our foreignness rather than of there being more noise I think! I look at the trucks these days and can't help thinking that the drivers must miss the camaraderie they had before.
