Kariega and Birthday Celebrations

Today is C's 70th Birthday!

Celebrations started early with a game drive seeing Giraffes, Rhinos, Zebra (but not Mountain Zebra this time) and other animals.

We then went back to the Homestead in time for a birthday brunch with champagne too. After the brunch everyone said there own little testimony to Chris retailing funny stories and memories. We'd all had to do a letter from Happy Birthday Chris and then put words to it for our testimonies. It was very moving and a joyful occasion, it was also very nice that both son in laws to Chris made a point of remembering one special person missing from the occasion C & R's daughter J who sadly died in her late teens. It was nice to include her memory and remember her (although I never met her) on this special day.

We then had toasts, candle blowing and cake cutting with coffee.

After the celebrations there was a much needed pause for all before another game drive, where the elephants gave us a fantastic display and we saw the lions again. Unbeknown to me at this point my little Canon Ixus fell out of my pocket by the Lions! We all met up on the plain for a drink to watch the sunset and have a family photo taken.

It was then back to the Homestead... children went to bed and the rest of us had some adult time with drinks and a natter.

Awesome day and the birthday boy was very very happy!
