The Floods of July 2010

There were definitely a few scary moments during that week of rain there. This flood warning on the side of the Ota River Diversion channel that runs near our house never stopped flashing. One time I was glad of the hill that our house is on. Our house might be alright, but our options of going anywhere would be severely limited by this river bursting its banks.
We were spared this time, but reminded of the undiscriminating force of nature. One person's home, belongings and life are left in tact, while someone living right next door is left homeless.

Conclusion: thank your lucky stars for every day of happiness you have and live for the moment, not the future, just in case!
