Schooner

This fog bell frames a beautiful schooner, leaving Dún Laoghaire Harbour. The schooners takes 30-40 to crew it and is off to Scotland - according to the chit-chat around the shore.

The fog bell is inscribed 'Sheridan Dublin Marker 1852' and was moved inside the East battery at the end of the pier in 1907.

To most of us the East battery is a lighthouse, but three of the artillary guns are still there on the top level, though I'm not sure anyone has any ammunition of the right size for them.

Lots more great images of the schooner setting its sails and existing the harbour today, but you got to pick one, so here it is.

If you are in Dún Laoghaire be sure to walk the pier and the East Battery at its end, the sun helps, but its great walk in all weathers - including a force 10, when the waves are sight to behold.
