The Long Walk
I always find parking decks slightly sinister.
Perhaps it's the eternal darkness of the inside, despite the lack of walls. All the shadowy hiding places and the feeling of being trapped with no actual barriers - if something dire happened, it wouldn't matter that there are no windows or walls to hold you in - you couldn't very well jump out of an eight-story deck. Certainly not with any real optimism for a positive outcome.
Perhaps it's the labyrinthine nature of the ups and downs, overs and acrosses of the lanes as they guide you, inexorably, to where they want you to go.
Perhaps it's the overwhelming bigness - giant slabs of unadorned cement, unapologetic in their ugliness, boasting openly that they could crush you without a second thought.
I don't know.
