The End of an Era

Whether the swan pictured above is grieving or not is hard to say but she is definitely behaving out of character. She lost her mate this week. The male swan, who lived on the lake for 23 years and who was known to the locals as Edward, died in a park ranger's arms.

Edward is the father of the cygnets posted in my very first blip. These cygnets are now as big as their mum but they still have their brown feathers.

Although Edward was a fierce, arrogant murderer (he killed other birds and threatened everything and anything), he will and is being missed by the visitors to Yarrow Country Park. What will we all talk about now that we can't talk about what ever it is that Edward has been up to?

Edward died of old age.
