TUSCAN RUIN FOR SALE
Well, this looks like a pig's breakfast, doesn't it? I went to photograph the ruin and got transfixed by the bridge and the light reflected from the river below. It's a medieval bridge but has been reinforced with tarmac and the brick sides replaced with a metal railing. I even got down on my knees to get more of the bridge but that means the picture is too balanced in a way.
The ruin looks very attractive and it really is for sale, unlike so many other ruins. It has quite a few drawbacks. The river goes over its banks from time to time and I should think this house has had a river running through it more than once in its lifetime. The main road from Lucca to Camaiore is just across the narrow river and the winery road runs right past it.
It's quite a large house and around the other side there are two large arched doors leading to what must be a huge cantina (cellar). This pretty much means the people who lived there made an awful lot of wine. A winery is still there and there are quite a few inhabited houses and buildings behind this one. The hills behind are covered in vines.
The other disadvantage to this ruin is that it, and all those behind it, are in the valley. In winter everything is covered in frost every morning and if not that, a cold mist.
