Hitch

This was on the trip from Dunedin to Wanaka. The guy I was riding with decided to stop here so his Dog could take a walk and he could have a smoke.

He was almost a tour guide. He knew tons about the towns we drove through and knew a lot of the history of what the place was like before settlers came.

The picture is taken from the desert area just outside the southern alps. It looked like it could have been where they filmed the scene from Lord of The Rings where Legolas Aragorn and Gimli were chasing the Orcs back to Isengard. haha. I went all nerd on ya. But seriously it was real rocky and just looked like it. Kinda like the whole north island could be the shire. Well most of it anyway...

The guy gave me a ride for about 2 hours. He was one of those guys who is constantly skeptical. A hard guy who has worked his way through life, but has been tainted by its toil. He seemed like he had no hope, nothing to live for except work in the day and booze in the evenings. It was sad. No excitement no joy. Nothing.

If only he could see...
