Ailsa Craig
It was a long long day of traveling today. We left the cottage at 10 am and got to Larne for about half past three. That did include a couple of hours stop for lunch just before we crossed the border. The Ferry was supposed to leave at half past five but ended up being almost an hour late leaving. We finally got off the Ferry at Troon at nine o clock and, by the time we stopped for dinner we made it home for about half past eleven at night. A very long day all in.
The journey across the Irish Sea was a bit gusty too so there were several people on the boat who looked a bit ill.
We did get a cracking view of Ailsa Craig on the way over. Ailsa Craig is a volcanic plug off the West Coast of Scotland mainly composed of Granite. It's claim to fame is that Blue Hone granite was quarried there which was used to make curling stones. All curling stones used to be made from Ailsa Craig granite but there's now a site in Wales which supplies granite for the stones. Still somewhere in the region of 60 - 70% of curling stones are made from Ailsa Craig granite and all Olympic curling stones are.
I've backblipped for the last few days starting here now too if you want a look.
