Electric motors at unit EC 20.
Taking a sunbath.
The motor in front is a spare one; became superfluous when a new motor with variable rpm was fitted. (that was in appr. 1984; since then the motor stood at several places and now came to rest next to the place it used to stand.
The cable hanging on it was used for keeping the motor warm (and dry) at standstill but apparently it is not necessary anymore.
These motors run at 3000 Volts (3KV) and take appr. 1 MegaWatt (is 1000 Kilowatts, is 1 million Watts) of of power when running at full load.
That is when the flow through the pump it drives is appr 500 kg (liters) of water per second....
The pump is in the basement.
We have two of these pumps, they are redundant.

The ring in front is part of a special tilting mechanism which is used for maintenance at the EC 20 gasturbine (a Siemens V94-2)
