Sunday summer brunch

My brother is up visiting this weekend from Charlotte. He has come up on leave from summer classes at culinary school and for his birthday.

Of course my mom is pretty excited to have both of her sons here again under one roof brief as it will be. So, the whole family came out for a summer Sunday brunch out here in the country. The spread was pretty fantastic as you can see. A big fresh salad full of baby greens, mushrooms, and mandarins. Green bean almond salad and cold corn salad. Fresh Hanover tomatoes needing no adornment. Bread with cheeses and dip. Roast beef and rotisserie chicken picked from the bone. And a fresh watermelon butchered for the occasion. Top it off with mimosas, mint tea, fresh pies, and homemade ice cream and it is a feast.

And so we all laughed and chatted and ate good food under the eaves of the oak trees late into the afternoon. When the last guest, my aunt Stephanie left it was nearly dusk and I was feeling as slow and drowsy as the humid summer air.

Full belly on a lazy summer Sunday afternoon.
