Honorary Grandma Glenda
When I was a little girl 'Aunty' Glenda and her husband 'Uncle' Peter were a huge part of our lives. She's one of my mother's best friends and we all went on holidays together and probably saw more of them than our real aunties. They didn't have children of their own so borrowed us from time to time and for our part we loved being borrowed because they were so different from our own parents and seemed so much cooler because of it...let's face it, as a child, other people always seem so much more exciting than the 'boring' people you live with everyday! I'm now rediscovering this fact from the other side with Henry only this time I'm cast in the role of 'boring' mummy!
Sadly Uncle Pete died not long after I married and he never got to see my children which is a shame as he'd have made a terrific Granddad. Glenda is a super Grandma and has lost none of her cool-factor over the years. She has an innate understanding of the stuff children like to do and always knows the exact little gift to produce for the maximum WOW factor. I love her because she's a warm, interesting, genuine, caring woman and I'm glad she's still part of our lives.
Henry was her first 'Hon' but she's gone on to acquire quite a collection which is hardly surprising. Carlsberg don't make Grandmas but if they did they'd make 'em like Grandma Glenda :-)
