Let the party begin
Islington, London, a sticky hot late July afternoon. Stopped by in this kitsch but cool cocktail bar (very self consciously shabby chic).
She arrived, pulled out lots of photocopies of photographs, then after asking the bar man's permission began blue tacking them to the wall behind a table and chairs with a reserved sign. All the time she was looking around self consciously. Who was she waiting to arrive? The pictures were her of lots of girls all cheek to cheek in rather formal, grinning poses. Next came the balloons. Pink ones with 'Hen Party' written on the side. She burst a couple and my spaniel jumped. I couldn't resist going for the camera. She was blowing hard into a pink balloon. It would have been perfect but the shutter just wouldn't click. Dammit! Then she noticed what I was doing..and said I'd made her feel self conscious. She probably thought I was in love with her or something, when all I wanted was the whole scene, for which she was the lead actress.
