Christmas in July!

This photo isn't a good photo. There's nothing special about the composition, and it doesn't have a great deal of artistic merit. But it is special.

It's a recreation of this picture taken on 30 July, 2005.

I met Mathew in Dundee on 6 July, 2005. We knew we liked each other pretty quickly. I love Christmas. We didn't know if we'd still like each other by Christmas time. So we decided to go to Edinburgh for a weekend, and have Christmas in July. We bought each other presents, made Christmas cards (they're difficult to buy in July) and drove to the hotel in Newhaven. It was an awesome day. We walked up Leith Walk into town. I'd told him it was a ten/fifteen minute walk. He believed me. For the first ten/fifteen minutes. He's never forgiven me for the other hour or so.

As well as unwrapping our presents, I asked him if he'd like to be my first boyfriend. He said yes. Who would'e thought that we'd go from not knowing if we'd last until Christmas to recreating the photo five years later?

Today's been a pretty fun day. Mathew was at work, I cooked - chicken stuffed with Stilton, wrapped in bacon, with peppercorn sauce and spicey potato wedges. It didn't turn out as well as I hoped (I almost poisoned Mathew, his chicken wasn't quite cooked :-s) but I think he appreciated the thought though. Desert was an awesome cheesecake supplied by our friends Trudian, in honour of national cheesecake day. Mathew gave me a really nice card which I nearly blipped, but he had this idea instead. Glad he did.

After dinner we went out to the theatre. One of our friends lives with the UK's leading female impersonator, so we went to see his show. Drag's not really our thing, but this was a great laugh. The second half was awesome.

All in all, a really nice day. Here's to the next five years... we've even seen the house we want the 10th Manniversary to be in (but we have some saving to do first!)
