Lake District residents.

These are the traditional sheep of the English Lake District - Herdwicks - whose wool turns from black to brown/grey/white as they age - but you don't tend to find those in a farmyard - they are very hardy and spend their lives on the hills. These sheep have recently been sheared - you can see the stripes on the ewes. The lambs have not been sheared.

This was taken in Troutbeck, a small village a few miles from Windermere where we got married nearly two years ago, and where we went today to visit the National Trust's Townend - a yeoman farmer's house dating back to around 1650. I took some photos of the wonderful carvings inside the house... but the sheep won when it came to choosing today's blip!
