Every dog you'll ever need ?

About a year ago, not a million miles from here I overheard the following conversation :

"She has two big dogs - one is a German Shepherd, the other is an Alsatian"

Deutsche schäferhund, GSD, saksanpaimenkoira, Alsatian - just some of the many names for the same great dog breed.

Did you know that despite having a "wolfy" appearance that suggests it is ancient, the breed was developed as recently as 1899 by Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer ?

Not the biggest breed, not the fastest breed, not the smartest breed, not the best tracker, but all round its just about every dog you'll ever need rolled into one.
