This is June
June is a Mescalaro Apache Indian from New Mexico visiting Michigan with a small group. They are spending the week working at a Community Development Center in a very poor section of Grand Rapids.
Neighborhood house repairs and lawn cleanup were the target projects and there were conversations about what the face of poverty looks like here as compared to New Mexico, on and off the reservation. I was drawn into this by a friend who asked me to take some pictures of everyone working. This ended up being my favorite photo.
When I asked her if it was ok to take a picture, she didn't say anything but just struck this pose.
