Weeping Corner

This bend in Aldcliffe Road once gave prisoners being taken to Lancaster for trial their first glimpse of the castle (visible in the background of this photo). With execution being the ultimate fate that awaited many of them within those walls, it's perhaps understandable that they were reduced to tears at the sight, thus giving the corner its eerie name.
