Emperor

This is a female Emperor dragonfly (an Empress?) laying her eggs (or ovipositing) in a pond. She is nearly submerged except for her wings and upper body. I was hoping for the male of the species as he is a brilliant blue but he seems to have done the dirty deed and flown away. Oh well, another day ...
