Maybe the Only One in Scotland

Well, it might be.

Yes, it's a pot still and of course, there are many such towers of copper throughout the land. But I've only seen one of them used as the intermediate still in a triple distillation process. There's only one active distillery in Scotland that does a proper triple distilled whisky: Auchentoshan, at Kilpatrick near the Erskine Bridge.

We went here today with OH's Aussie friend Luke, who wanted to see a real Scottish distillery. This being the closest one to Glasgow, he was happy enough to see it.

From what I know, Auchentoshan is the only Scottish distillery to do a "proper" triple distillation: the Benrinnes distillery on Speyside also operates its stills in triples (being a malt heavily used in blends, it runs 6 stills), but is not considered a true triple distillation. Other Scots distilleries to deviate from the standard double distillation are Springbank and Mortlach, whose mysterious processes are sometimes described as 2.5 distillations. Interestingly, Springbank and Mortlach are among my favourite malts, and from what I recall of the one tasting I had, Benrinnes is also good. But I'm not and Auchentoshan fan.
