In the yaaahd, not too faah from the caah

We said last week that we'd be asking a guest to do this week's assignment round-up. We can now reveal that guest is the inimitable wordycamerasmith, wingpig. (We're slightly concerned that he took the morning off work to pore over your entries for the last assignment.) Over to you, Sir...

Despite last week's interpret-it-your-way pep-talk the nicely specific "In My Backyard" title did generally get people thinking about their back yard or garden. If only the "In" hadn't been in there; someone of sufficient height could have blipped themselves holding a tape measure over their shoulder showing that they are thirty-six inches from neck to bottom. No matter, especially given the variety of backyards...

There are the small, the large, the larger still, a mixture of both, those which consist of the whole of the rest of the world outside the confines of the property, the inverted and the purely theoretical.

Some are there to look pretty whilst others are more practical. Some are a little too well-tended whilst others are nice and relaxedly overgrown or concealed beneath slowly decaying piles of junk.

There are the playful, the damp, the abstract, the slightly mysterious and the vaguely spooky. Some contain balls kicked over the fence by the neighbours

There are the colourful and the shapely. Those supporting rodent life, those which prefer prefer cats (or the means of attracting them) and various other strange inhabitants. Some even try to brew their own new forms of life up from the remains of others.

I'd have expected at least a few pictures of people spying on their neighbours from their garden. Instead we get people watching mollusc-porn, spying on their neighbours in their garden from inside their own house or even spying on their own house from their own garden.

With it being autumn there were also some leaves... lots of leaves... though not from our fellow blippers in the southern hemisphere who are currently putting on their sunglasses, smugly rolling up their trouser legs and apparently not quite getting round to mowing the verdant lawn of the southern spring.

Just in case people like their weekly BlipBlog assignment round-up to be a nice concise summary with a few favourites picked from the vast-ish (115 at the moment) entry pool then that'll be this bit.

Also this week but unrelated to the assignment: Happy Blipday to Missing and B@rker.

A big thank you to Blipcentral for letting us mere normal people have a go at this bit. It didn't take that long to look and pick and waffle but over the previous fourteen weeks the hours must have accumulated considerably; think of all the lovely features they can develop for us with the extra time...

I've no idea whose turn it is next Friday. I do know that the assignment they'll be rounding-up is titled "Non-Essential". Remember to tag your entries with assignment16. Off you go...

Cheers...
