Girl and Sheep
We've always called this Girl and Goat, not least because it's alliterative. "This glamorous young woman was walking through a meadow with a bunch of roses tucked under her arm, and a goat crept up on her and knocked her over and is eating the flowers - and the girl thinks it's a hoot!" That was the story we devised. But now I come to photograph it I see that it's a sheep after all.
I bought this in a French brocante some time late in the last century. Can't pinpoint the year exactly but it was sold to me in Francs and not Euros, I remember that much. We were buying furniture, and I spotted this at the back of the shop, chipped and very dusty. Monsieur said it was 400 francs (about 40 pounds). We left it and then as we were pulling out of the car park I asked C to stop the car and rushed in and bought it. I'm very fond of it. It's one of the things I'd grab in a fire, though it's still pretty chipped and dusty. I attacked the worst of the bronze damage with gold nail polish and I think I got away with it.
