Bedside Medication
A few years ago, Just after my hysterectomy I developed a cough.
The cough was so awful I was sick most
Mornings with it and was totally embarassed to be seen heaving up if I was too vocal at football matches!
I kept it under control for about six months with copious amounts of mucron, cough syrup and painkillers! It was only after a temporary contract ended abruptly because of my persistant absence from sickness( - they warned me never to come in coughing and being sick ! What's a girl to do? ) I decided to get it checked out!
After a round of tests and much coughing and sputting. They said Asthma. I couldn't believe it! I never knew coughing was a sign of asthma I really didn't!
I have my inhalers. Purple for every morning and blue for emergencies.
I stopped taking my purple one because I was feeling fine and then one evening I smelt diesel from a plane overhead and by the time I reached the end of the road I had to go back and get my inhaler.
You just don't realise how difficult it is to catch your breath when your tubes aren't working. It leaves you feeling drained and lethargic! That feeling can be worse than the panic when you have to grab the blue one and soooook. At least that reacts quickly!
After a visit to the nurse I returned to puffing my purple inhaler daily. It was four puffs a day until my breathing was easier - now am back to one, and guess what. Am almost ready to
Convince myself I don't need it!
Easy to forget when you Are feeling fine!
