Venloer Straße

Even if it looks calm and peaceful in this image, this is one of the most dangerous streets for cyclists in Cologne.

Currently, a reconstruction of the Venloer Straße is going on. They are putting the bicycle lanes onto the street. I do not understand why? First, they were cutting down all the trees and than this. Stupid. I would love to here the reason for city council for this.
The best thing they could have done would be to make it a one-way street. Don't know why they didn't do it.
