Phnom Penh day 2: Murdered
The years of Pol Pot's insane Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodia left a third of the country's population dead. Tuol Sleng, also known as Security Prison 21 or S-21 was a former school that the Khmer Rouge turned into a prison and torture centre. The prisoners were tortured until they confessed to something and/or gave names of other innocent people. Those who survived the torture were shipped to the killing fields to be murdered. The Khmer Rouge kept records of their barbarism and photographed all of the prisoners. A few thousand of those photos can be seen at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
