Here's The Cube, the extension to the chicken run.

We really wanted to have the chickens loose around the garden but there are so many holes in the fences and walls for them to jump over and trees to roost in that we can't be certain they'd come home for bedtime. Add to this the increase in fox sightings since our girls arrived and idiot contractors working on the farm who almost run us over and wouldn't even notice hitting a chicken. We had to have a serious rethink, could we allow them to roam freely and risk them getting injured, lost or killed or should we extend the run and keep them contained when we're at work and then let them have a fenced in area when we're home. We decided on the latter option, right or wrong, we've yet to see if we made the right choice, we can change our minds if we need to. We have some plastic fencing that we can move around different areas of the garden and stop them venturing into the lane and getting squished but they still get chance to roam a little.

I just think that this is the best option, we bought them here to live and it's our duty to care for them as best we can.

I just wish the little cluckers would start laying an egg or two sometime soon!
