Svartisen glacier
On a flight from Oslo to Tromsø we flew over Svartisen, Norway's second-biggest glacier with a total area of 370 square kilometres. It's the first time I've ever seen a glacier with my own eyes (albeit from 30,000 feet) and it was quite fortunate - when we left Oslo the weather was terrible and I thought the countryside below would be covered in cloud for the whole journey. But as we got further north the weather got better and from Svartisen to Tromsø there was hardly a cloud in the sky. There were some great views of the Lofotens (an amazing island archipelago on Norway's west coast), and the descent into Tromsø made for some great pictures too (as did a sunny evening at the Bukta open air rock festival) but in the end this shot of Svartisen had to be the blip.
