Passer domesticus

Here is a female House Sparrow. She came to drink from the drainage ditch running outside the library this afternoon. It reached 105 or so today in Moab. I didn't go outside much myself but I heard from others that it was in fact a ghost town out there.

There is not much (or perhaps quite a bit) to say about Passer domesticus. This bird is quite literally everywhere. Originally they hailed from Europe, and exist naturally there, yet they have been successfully introduced worldwide. It is in fact among the most widespread species of birds on the planet, favoring urban and developed area. This may be the first bird I remember being able to recognize as a child.

I felt for her, this little birdy. I would have been thirsty too, if I was stuck outside all day. Whew.
