On to Filisur
Made the 350km drive from Orbey to Filisur in Switzerland. Another boiling hot day with the temperature hitting 35. It was a largely uneventful drive although the Swiss do some very impressive tunnelling through the mountains. Arrived in Filisur at about 3pm after getting a little stuck in traffic outside Zurich.
We are staying at the amazing house owned by the family of our hosts Paul and Inge, who are old friends of David and Maggie (Clare's parents) who we me up with at the house. David has arranged for us to have one of the apartments in the house for a week. The house dates from the 1600s (at least it's been in Paul's family since the 1600s). It's a huge place over four floors: our floor had four bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and two bathrooms. We also had the run of the garden with a tremendous summer house. The house is largely original. The rooms have impressive hand-carved wood panelling on the walls and ceilings. Lots of original furniture, family portraits and idiosyncratic wiring. Paul and Inge cooked our dinner of a regional speciality (whose name I irritatingly didn't get because it was lovely) with salad, which we ate in the summerhouse in the corner of the garden.
This is the room Mandy and I slept in.
