Bressay Sound

First thing this morning we boarded our home for the week. The mv. Valkyrie is based in Stromness, Orkney, but is spending four months in Shetland this year. She's a big, comfortable vessel, taking 12 divers. We live aboard for the week, which makes diving as flexible as the weather allows.

Today, after loading all our kit, getting aquainted with the boat and crew, and generally settling in, we dived the Gwladmena. The wreck lies just outside Lerwick Harbour in 38m of water. She sank at anchor in 1918, after another vessel ran into her.

The wind got up in the afternoon so we only had one dive, which gave us the opportunity to take a stroll round Lerwick. This is Bressay Sound from old Lerwick, complete with Viking ship at anchor!
