A slice of Lesley's life

Stalemate

In the absence of after-school chess club I agreed to a game of 'mini-chess' with J. I almost felt bad when, after a long pause, he wisely nodded his head, saying, "agh, I know what you're planning." I really didn't have the heart to tell him the truth so I just said nothing. My actual chess strategy is largely to move the pieces around and wonder how long until it's over. I am sort of starting to enjoy it but I will never have the patience to do all that thinking ahead malarkey. Anyway, somehow my piece shuffling worked to the extent that J expressed relief at ending in stalemate as apparently I had spent most of the game in a stronger position. He could have told me.

Today's been a bit of a flat one. Feeling a little under the weather and as the weather has been largely squally that's not been the best place to be. Well, not if you want to be a productive, contributing member of society. If you're happy to bumble through the day, take an afternoon nap with your daughter and feel that walking two children to and from school is a fine best achievement then it's a perfectly fine place to be. Actually, I may revise my view of the day...

I did also buy a selection of potential book-club books, as last night I was given the task of choosing our summer read. I ended up buying four and have one left to read the first chapter of before making my choice. With the whole collection I think my summer reading list is sorted.

The sun's come out for the first time today so I'm off to join the kids who are outside. Though I shalln't be joining in any energetic games. I shall largely be sitting on the bench reading and sipping cold beer.

Not such a bad day after all,
Lesley x

ps - I had been feeling that my blippiness had gone a little stalemate and I haven't been inspired / motivated / having any time to really focus (haha) on the images. Today I decided to make a little more effort, did some reading and even used a brand new setting on my camera. It's a very small step but it felt quite good. I am tempted to set myself a summer project and to add another book to my reading list - any recommendations in the style of Photography for Dummies, if not that itself (I assume it exists) would be welcomed. Having said that, it's probably on the forums so I should probably start there...
