Wellington HZ520

This is a memorial to Wellington HZ520 which was shot down on the night of 21 July 1943. Two members of the crew were killed - F/Sgt H.V. Holmes (RAF) & F/O D. S. Milne (RCAF), the remainder were taken prisoner.

As with many of the memorials and war graves in the Netherlands, flowers had recently been laid on it. I am impressed by the way the Dutch appreciate the sacrifice made on their behalf. If only there was the same appreciation on this side of the North Sea.
