ship's barometer and clock

My husband made this aquisition on e-bay a few weeks ago.
It chimes (very gently) on every half hour - eight bells on4, 8 and 12 hours.

Unfortunately it doesn't alter the awful weather we have had since we got back - horrendous rain today again!!!!!
