So far, so good

Well, it looked unlikely a few months ago, but the swan has produced cygnets after the loss of his mate!
Even in his nest composed of 50% rubbish...
If you didn't see my earlier blips, two swans died on the river this spring. The male at Murrayfield, just after the eggs were laid, so the female could not leave the nest; the female down at the Shore, but the male managed to attract another.

The cygnets have been born very late, but they all looked fine, sleeping in the sun. I think there a five. Again, I didn't want to get too close to the nest, and the sun was shining on the camera screen etc, so not a great photo.

At the dig today, I finished the planning and started exposing a skeleton. The main event, though, was a plague of aphids, which were all attracted irresistibly to the yellow hi-viz vests we all have to wear on site. At least they don't bite, but they do like to fly up your nose and into your eyes!
