Giant Trees

We took groups of our students on a special outing the last few days of camp. Visiting the giant Sequoia trees ((Sequoiadendron) at Sequoia National Monument. Walking through the groves of these trees is quite impressive.

The largest of these trees is 269 feet tall (82 meters) and 128 feet in circumference (38 meters). This split tree is well over 200 feet tall and requires the use of a wide angle lens to capture its almost full length. It would have been more interesting if I could have a person in front of the tree for reference, but these trees are protected and wood fences keep visitors from walking over their root base and climbing there immense lower portions.

The students were overwhelmed and enjoyed the short drive up to Sequoia National Park at 6000 feet elevation.

More information about the Sequoia trees here.

Enjoy!
