Build Me Up Buttercup

These buttercups are growing on the side of a pond, in the nature reserve beside Chaveywell. I have noticed them before but they have a tendency to photograph badly, burning out where they shine on their cup-shaped petals. This evening the light conditions enabled me to capture them.

Remarkably, this was taken on the unrepaired water-damaged K-x. It isn't working properly - there is no LED information in the optical viewfinder, none of the buttons work, and it is set in Auto Pic mode regardless of the dial setting, for example. It does display information on the rear display panel suggesting that it is metering correctly, though, so I took it with me to test, and the pictures I took tonight show that this is actually the case. The auto-focus works and the shutter fires. I wonder if it may revive further in the fullness of time?

Furthermore, for the test I also used the 80-200mm lens that was written off in the same mishap. Looking into the barrel of the lens through the rear element, grit and sediments of water residue are clearly still visible, and it does not feel smooth in operation, but optically it seems to produce acceptable results.

Of course, both have been replaced now, but this is a pleasing find nonetheless. I thought that camera had taken its last picture.
