camera case

I owned a Nikon coolpix several years ago. When I wanted to buy a new camera this year, I decided to give Canon compacts a try. Can't say I notice a big difference between the two. I love the compacts for their portability and access for quick shots, but I am ready to invest in a good dslr. Nikon or Canon?
