Rare lunch

Today was noteworthy because of lunch. It's a very rare occurrence indeed, but today I met Carl for lunch in town. We had a bit of indecision to begin with, having met in the Little Italy area but not fancying anywhere there, then getting to The Larder only to find most of their lunchtime fare crossed off the board. It was Carl who suggested Chez Max, and we were glad we went there.

When Carl phoned yesterday he said we'd either be celebrating or drowning our sorrows. Fortunately, we were celebrating (work-related stuff of Carl's, the reason he was in town in the first place), so we kicked off our meal with a very nice kir royale. The onion soup was really good too, the wine went down well, and the coffee was excellent. We had reservations about our main courses, but not so as to affect the overall impression. It's especially nice to be able to sit outside, and Chez Max's location means there's always lots of coming and going because of its being right beside the entrance to Dublin castle.

We only began our meal at 3.00, so it was well into evening time by the time we finished. Naturally, we went on a bit of a pub crawl. Very pleasant it was, too.
