family heritage

today was a bit of a family day. a 25 mile bike ride with my parents, lunch halfway looking out over the lake. when we got back home, my mom and i found ourselves looking through some of the old things, passed down through her family. (the antiques of her somewhat wealthy irish family are really amazing treasures) we stumbled upon a little book filled up with various drawings and things. a group of them (this one included) seemed to be the envelops of mail sent to one of our relatives, eileen egan. every one was this detailed and beautiful. and the date on this one, march 8, 1908. over 100 years old.

in my letter writing dreams, i can only hope to send mail this spectacular. at least i know it runs in the family.
