Eclipsed
The beauty of this stainglassed window in an erstewhile local church, now turned into a lighting showroom, has all but been eclipsed by the dazzle of electricity.
This was the nearest church to the castle in an area boasting many places of worship for Jews, Anglicans, Roman Catholics and Protestants.
It served the local parish well until maybe 20 years ago when its Protestant congregation fell and it was amalgamated with a neighbouring church.
Our local primary school held their Christmas Carol concerts there while we parents could sit up in the balcony and keep a keen eye on any miscreants misbehaving, (hopefully not ours).
Now it plays host to a dance school and this lighting showroom.
His Lordship and I were at the sales this morning, not something we generally do, but we were looking for specific things, only to come away with some bedlinen and a coffee table, two of who's casters broke off the minute it was placed on the floor in the castle. No bargain there then, but such is life.
The wind yesterday has wrecked many a garden. In particular the no-cycling path in the Meadows that I cycle on early on my way to the gym if I don't think I will be caught was blocked this morning by a fallen cherry tree. I do hope it was the wind and not one of the mindless vandals who regularly break off the new saplings. The presence of a lot of other fallen branches probably eliminates the youths this time.
Interesting that the amount of rainfall in the west yesterday, exceeded the total amount there for June.
What an extraordinary climate we have and how interesting it is for general conversation.
