Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Diet Thoughts

The photo has nothing to do with spending my fourth day here in the Writing Center; well, other than this is a place that books are welcomed. But I couldn't stomach the thought of another boring Writing Center blip. Good grief! So . . .

I saw this book at noon as I stood at Jamba Juice waiting for my organic chocolate Chai tea with soymilk--no the tea was not my lunch (Mr. Fun had made me a sandwich, packed it in a brown paper sack, included a container of yogurt, and another of jello, and a love note).

The title of the book caught my attention because of a phone conversation earlier in the morning with Mr. Fun when he called me here in the Writing Center.

Thursday is the day that Mr. Fun checks in with his "diet" counselor. I've been reporting here in Blip that he has been dieting since last July. He's lost 60+ pounds. I guess we'll be having a celebrating here in a week or two for his 1 year anniversary. Anyway, he phoned to tell me that he had checked-in with the counselor and weighed-in and lost 3+ pounds this past week.

I said, "What?" "No way!" "Gosh that's terrific!" but I knew that we had NOT starved ourselves this week so I was a little curious as to how this had happened, so then I said, "How did you do that?"

He answered in a typical Mr. Fun response, "I wore my flip-flops instead of my big ol' clunky shoes and that made all the difference!"

I just busted-up laughing. I was here in the Writing Center, so I had to contain myself. Laughter in this dignified academic place is frowned on, but this possibly gives you a clue as to why I have nick-named him Mr. Fun. He keeps me laughing. That is not to say that he never mades me mad! ;-)

So I'm headed home in 35+ minutes -- woohoo -- and tonight is "date night." I have no idea what we are doing. Last night after he fixed our meal, we played in the pool till 10:35. Tonight we may do the same or we may escape to some other kind of adventure. What I know is that with him, it will be fun.

I won't report back to the Writing Center until Tuesday morning at 8:00. So we're headed into a national holiday weekend here in the USA. I hope you have a great weekend. I plan to.

From Southern California, that's it for the first day of July.
