Street lighting pole, Kalk Bay
Monday was a public holiday in South Africa. With time on our hands, we decided to use the metro rail system to travel down to the Southern Cape peninsula. From Strand into Cape Town and then on a second train down to Kalk Bay, just before the famous maritime town of Simonstown.
Our destination is a tiny fishing harbour and tourist destination - antique, art and book shops proliferate.
Each leg of the journey took slightly over an hour - metro trains aren't very fast - during which we had a chance to chat and peer out of the graffiti-d windows at the passing suburbs. Once at Kalk Bay, we opted for a beer in the sun and lunch in the (locally) famous Kalkies in the harbour, wolfing down mounds of ocean fresh fish and chips. There are many more up-market restaurants in the area, but Kalkies was a great choice ;-)
It was a great day out and the weather was more than kind. For once, I didn't come back from a day out with a clutch of images that I was aching to download and look at. Perhaps it was just not meant to happen.
I shot this on the platform waiting for the train back into Cape Town.
