Ants in my plants

Well probably not an attack force, for all I know it might be an ant nursery. Anyone any idea what the little black egg-shaped things at the bottom right are, black fly maybe? The ants were all congregated on a single flower, no sign of them anywhere else on the bush....strange!

It was this or a picture of the half-filled skip in the back lane....the boy-in-the-attic and I have already done the equivalent of a days work and it's only 10.30.......
