Gaudi's Barcelona
In the spirit of Spain's defeat of Portugal in the Soccer World Cup, I decided to do a "Spanish" blip:
I saw a movie titled "A Gaudi Afternoon" when I was still a student in Pretoria. The movie was filmed in Barcelona and focused on all Gaudi's architectural master pieces scattered throughout the city. I decided then and there that I would one day go to Spain and see these buildings for myself...
Almost 10 years later, in Oct 2007, I did just that! I loved every inch of Barcelona and the magic of Gaudi's parks / buildings spoke straight to my heart. Parc Guell was part of a garden suburb that Gaudi worked on from 1900 to 1914, but never completed. Gaudi's very famous blue mosaic dragon is at the heart of the park.
I bought this snow globe, with a little replica of the mosaic dragon in the centre, at Parc Guell's gift shop before I left the park that day. It always makes me smile:) I really hope I get to go there again some day...
